BOOK CLUB MEMBER

In high school I was a member of a mailing list book club,so you ask what the hell is that? a member of a mailing list book club is for book nerds,members get a catalog of books for discount prices. in those days books were like the internet mobile tablets today.I bought many books to use for my storytelling show with sammy.it was a promotional event,this event lead me to many many many birthday party gigs.I share this information with you because it's a business tactic I no longer use because I am retired from live stage performances.I will continue on the subject, being a book club member supplied me with lots of material. I would do shows for schools and libraries,in my storytelling show I also had games and prizes,the children audience love the prizes and the librarian staff joined in the games too!.I remember a storytelling show at a library,when I walked in I saw a giant colorful billboard with "VANN DUKE AND SAMMY STORY TIME SATURDAY AT 3p.m." I was so overwhelmed by the librarian preparing for me to arrive. I brought the neighborhood kids into the library and this was wonderful. you your self can use this same show business tactic for self promotion as I did.in the storytelling act you should know the book from beginning to end so try short stories so you don't bore your audience,also study a lesson on public speaking as I did,it will teach you when to speak and when not to speak,and how to project your voice and words and also how to deliver your message loud and clear.a trick of my storytelling show was I would hold a book in my hand and sammy in the other hand, I would turn the book page with my thumb to give the illusion that I turned the page but in reality I didn't turn the page,the secret is memorize a short story and speak in a way as if you were reading..a short story could be of the "three little pigs" and of course sammy is there to make storytelling more fun.I remember back in the day,I had about ten short children book stories memorized but one or two is good for a one time event.I can't believe in high school what a business man I was,sorry, business boy.can you dig it! I am thinking as I write about my library shows fifty or more neighborhood kids sitting at my show and taking my business cards and fliers and pamphlets and and getting calls! can you dig it!
