when I told my mother that I wanted to become a ventriloquist she beat the crap out of me. anytime I mentioned the art of ventriloquism to my mother she would say little African American boys do not do things like that so I would tell her about willie tyler and lester,Richard and willie, Aaron Williams and Freddy.during middle school my mother saw how serious I was about becoming a ventriloquist because all I did was eat and breath the art of ventriloquism.even the teachers in school how serious I was about becoming a ventriloquist, because in those days education was life and schools actually cared about the students future, and a student could request his or her own classes with a career counselor but math and English classes was a must.l had wood shop classes where I made my bodies for my ventriloquist figures,I had drama class and joined the drama club where I spent a lot of time,I had band- the trumpet-the tuba-the saxophone, also had creative writing class that class my grades were always good.after school in those days the library was like the internet today,so after school I would spend time reading and study the art of ventriloquism at the library,I also checked out books to take home to study.my mother told me when I in high school that she didn't know that I was such a good ventriloquist, until she saw it for herself at a family Christmas party, she was a fan of sammy holiday,my first sammy, even as I became older my mother would ask about sammy, deep down inside the woman born in the 1930s was proud of her son learning to do something positive in life.
