JOKE BOOKS?

if you want to know if you should use a joke book for the comedy material in your act I say it depends on you.I am a writer first so I write my own material, being a ventriloquist is mostly self preparation so in developing a character or personality for a ventriloquist figure will take some creative writing.I have seen many ventriloquist acts that use jokes from a joke book and I can see the punchlines coming.my vision of a ventriloquist act is two people carrying on a conversation in front of a circle of people that is the audience, the ventriloquist dummy might try to show off,the ventriloquist figure or dummy might notice a cute boy or girl sitting in the audience or the ventriloquist figure might have a wondering eye.I say writing your own material is fresh but a joke book is easier.I used a joke book when I get writers block or a brain fart,I have learned that if I constantly write I eliminate writeblock.using joke books is like having help,it also take away originality.let me be c...

BED TIME STORY

Oh my god! bubble gum and chocolate milk! dip my corn chips in my chilli French fries, sitting in front of my television set as a young boy watching comedian Damon Wayans on a show called in living color playing homey the clown, can it be real I am sitting in front of him in a circle of other comedians as he talk,I can't remember what he was talking about,it was just a normal conversation,he drove up in the parking lot in something like a ford Taurus new model of the times he got out and we all gather around in the back area of the famous comedy club,he is a big man in person,I love his work in movies and television.one night he was performing on stage just killing it,one joke he did about his age,he said something like his body is tight on the out side but all the parts on the inside of his body are hanging loose, it was funny! oh yes, if I remember clearly one awkward moment asking him for his autograph, you know what, now that I think about it,I do not want to mention that awkward m...

SNOW IN JULY

I am a old man now but when I was a young buck entering the comedy club world, you can smell my mother breast milk on my breath at a famous comedy club one night the club was packed with people cheering for a guy on the stage wearing a white suit and a red shirt,he looked like John Travolta in the movie Saturday night fever.the spot light following his every move, the crowd loved him,on the stage this guy could do no wrong.it was crazy that night,I was new to the comedy club scene and kept in mind this is the land of giants, like robin Harris coming down to the night club I was a regular at,so I asked a fellow comedian who is the guy on stage,he looked at me sideways just like my fiancee did when I asked who robin Harris was when he was a special guest at the night club I was at.as the crowd got louder I found out who the guy was,his name was "valentine" and surely you know him.being from the night clubs and going straight into comedy clubs was like going from zero to sixty in o...

UNDER THE RAINBOW

Entering the comedy club circuit was a new horizon for me, I created a new style of writing.going in to comedy clubs SHOW business reminds me of meeting comedian robin Harris for the first time when I was a night club entertainer,he was a special guest performer at a night club I was a regular at,so many years later I'm doing the comedy clubs thinking ,so this is the world robin Harris was from, now it came clear to me why a comedy club performer would shine so bright in a night club,( I wrote a blog about sammy and robin Harris meeting for the first time go read it). I met many famous comedians during my comedy club circuit shows,it made me miss the nightclubs days of singers and musicians, but comedy clubs put muscles on Sammy, sammy became Samson and was strong and mighty, sooo! strong and mighty it was acts written and purposely done to get audience members to walk out the comedy club or to cause an uproar, yes I was in the land of robin Harris and learn to speak the language of the...
